Job Description
JOB TITLE: Paraprofessional – Special Education
CLASSIFICATION: Level 2
SUMMARY Under the supervision of certified teaching staff, assists in the education of students with special needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the development of student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
- Implement daily lesson plans including academic, social, and functional activities as indicated in the IEP and as per teacher lesson plans .
- Organize/prepare instructional material for students.
- Provide direct student instruction (individual or group) from lesson plans or teacher direction.
- Maintain logs for assigned student(s).
- Provide informal evaluation of IEP goal attainment and report to assigned teacher.
- Assist classroom teacher as time and conditions permit.
- Design, implement, and enforce behavior management plans as developed by the teacher.
- Provide physical assistance to assigned students, as needed. This includes all activities during school hours, on campus or off (e.g., field trips, assemblies, playground, etc).
- Provide individualized "life skill" assistance as described in the IEP (e.g., toileting, feeding, etc.).
- Follow proper techniques in handling, lifting, and carrying students.
- Assist in therapy (physical, occupational, speech, etc.) as instructed, and as explained in the IEP.
- Maintain student confidentiality, while ensuring the teacher and principal are informed of important aspects in the student's activities.
- Provide recess and lunch duties as assigned.
- Attend mandatory District trainings and orientations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This individual will supervise assigned student(s) on campus as directed by administration and/or teacher

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and/or CERTIFICATION
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class One Arizona Fingerprint clearance
- Prior job related experience with a preference in school-related job
